WHO WE ARE
Strong Klong Toey is a group of youth came together to create fun learning activities for underprivileged youth in Klong Toey Community to equip them with knowledge and skill set that could uplift them from the poverty .
Khlong Toey is the largest underserved area in Thailand, covering an area of over 190 rai. There are more than 13,000 households with a variety of nationalities, both Thai people and migrant workers. Most of them are low-income workers. Many families has one or two money maker to support the whole family. Given the crowded, competitive and fast-paced lifestyle of Bangkok, it is even harder for Klong Toey dwellers to make enough for living. Fighting for survival, to earn enough for family is therefore the main priority of people in the community. Poverty and these struggles are the root cause of other problems. Whether it is violence, drug usage, crime, early motherhood to school drop-out among youth, you can see them all there.
I have heard about the danger of going into Klong Toey community. Even though it sits right there in the middle of the city of Bangkok and so closed to the fancy high-rise and modern shopping malls, people just commute past. I am so opportune to have a chance to follow my teacher into the area. Not only I saw the real way of people make a living in the community, I also experienced the happiness and eagerness to learn from Klong Toey youth fellows. My calling is when the renewed common area where most people in the community get together is expropriated for building a commercial bill board. I decided to lend my helping hand to promote accessible learning opportunities to youth in Klong Toey. I believe that if one knows about and can get access to better alternatives, he/she would make the right choice. Therefore, with a group of friends, we set our first project to create a new learning space for the community. Then to set up fun, useful, activities for youth in the community. We do believe that if our youth fellow have good knowlege and skill set. They can use it as a weapon to overcome obstacles and escape from poverty in the future.” Mr. Pasin Piamthipmanus said.
In 2020, we started our first project “Sports Dee Jung” We restored the old basketball court which was destroyed by Bangkok big flood since 2011 and arrange a Basketball training class for youth coached by, Mr. Boonchai Rittiphanyawong, ex-Basketball National Athlete.
